Pueblo Canyon

This cliff dwelling in Pueblo Canyon is quite large and well-preserved. However, it's very difficult to reach due to rugged terrain and a trail that's so poor it's difficult to even see much of the time. The ruin is one of many dwellings built in the Cherry Creek area of the Sierra Ancha about 700 years ago by the Anchan culture.

This photo was taken in winter 2010. I was so worn out when I reached
this place I took one shot, and one shot only. A decade ago this ruin was
waaaaaay easier to reach, mainly because the trail was not so overgrown.
This is no longer a hike. It's a hike / crawl / climb to get around,
under or over scratchy manzanita, thick brush and fallen trees.

This photo from the 1990s shows only about a third of the cliff
dwelling. If I backed up any farther I'd back right off the cliff.
