On top of Perry Mesa are "Seven Cities of Stone" – actually large pueblos containing 100 or more rooms – occupied in the 14th century by people belonging to what archaeologists call the Perry Mesa Tradition. Pueblo La Plata is named for its location near Silver Creek. This place doesn't have many petroglyphs, but it's still an interesting archaeological site and it's much easier to reach than the ruins at Squaw Creek and Perry Tank Canyon. |
