Jack's Canyon
Jack's Canyon is a small gorge that meanders its way through
an otherwise flat expanse of high desert south of Winslow, Ariz. I have
never read anything about about Jack's Canyon. I have never known anyone
else who has hiked there. Trails don't exist in the area. It is these
qualities that make the canyon a great place to explore. Among other things,
I found some petroglyphs tucked inside an enclave at the bottom of the
canyon. I haven't researched this particular site so I can't say anything
about the human and bighorn sheep except that they're pretty cool. The
enclave also happens to be occupied by some current cliff dwellers -- the
ones who made the bird's nests out of mud.
