White Canyon

I came across these sites in May 2006 while hiking White Canyon in Natural Bridges National Monument. Horse Collar Ruin, as the 800-year-old Anasazi cliff dwelling is called, is fairly well known. However, most hikers probably miss the nearby pictographs, which are off the trail a bit, hidden behind some trees. There are many more archaeological sites in White Canyon. These are just the best ones I happened to find.

SPACIOUS SOUTHWEST CHARMER WITH GREAT VIEWS!

Horse Collar Ruin was named for the shape of the doorways of the two "rooms" shown

in the above left photo. Those two rooms actually served as a granaries.

The above right photo shows the livingroom, den and kitchen... or something along those lines.

This well-preserved pictograph panel is just upstream from the cliff dwelling.

Of course, there are also natural bridges

at Natural Bridges National Monument.

Above is Sipapu Bridge.
